Anonymous asked: how was the run... your so AWESOME..can't wait to see you.Staci
funny how when we first arrived in kathmandu it seemed so uncivilized. now we’re back after over two weeks trekking in the himalayas and it seems like a land of luxury. we’re both eager to get home. it’s been hard but awesome. fun but tiring. crazy and hard to put into words.
the day after the marathon, we set off trekking again. hiked a few hours, set up camp, woke up and hiked another five hours into lukla where we stayed in a lodge with giant rats and waited for morning hoping the weather would hold out for the scary flight back to kathmandu.
we finally got a flight and it was bumpy but we landed safely and are back at the hotel in kathmandu waiting until we start our two days of flying home (starts friday).
im not sure what to even say. it’s been such an adventure, it’s all such a blur right now. we were on freaking base camp at mt. everest! the only people that get to camp there are the expeditionists so that was pretty cool that we were given the privelage.
it’s only now just hitting that we ran a marathon. a really freakin hard marathon. we just jumped right back into the routine of trekking without a blink. we have a free day tomorrow so i’ll try to get some pics loaded. holy crap ive taken a million!
we’re tired, im sunburnt, been peeling like a leper, but other than that we’re a-ok.
missin home and everyone there. i’ll write more when my brain comes back on.
Terry…please, please take a shower before you get home. won’t it be special to sit on a real toilet with no pine needles?? love you guys…
great job girls, way to suffer…
Oh man we have tea time twice a day. Anyway, we are at base camp. Yesterday we climbed to 18500 ft and then came down and trekked to base camp. We are sitting on a glacier at 17500 ft. It’s surreal. The ice is awesome and constantly shifting. Also, there are crows here :) . So tomorrow morning at 7am we start running the marathon. There’s 64 foreigners and 40 nepalese. Some new groups just arrived today. This trip has been crazy and we are ready to come home and drink water with no parasites and eat real food and use toilets! We are doing good tho. Handling the elevation and all. Talk to you soon!
And I’m racking up roaming charges to tell you. Please send donations.:)
We are good. Over 16000 ft, we see base camp tomorrow. We don’t have headaches or anything but the air is thin. Woo! Food sucks bad and I’m not the only one that thinks so. We love you and miss you all. This is the craziest trip ever. Lots of pics when I get back. Will update again soon.
Anonymous asked: Come on mom dont worry about that stupid plane your almost there I love ya and at least its not 132 degrees on the plane :)- Zack
she’s doin good buddy! the flight is actually pretty scary. and we have to keep retaking it and flying back to where we came from! where’s that poem you promised??
…and we’re back.
we shouldn’t be here right now. we should have no internet access tonight, but here we are, back at the hotel.
today was lukla day. we were to fly out to lukla and start the trek.
we got up around 4am, got all the gear, got on the bus and went through the most pointless security checkpoints at the prison, i mean airport in khatmandu. we got on the plane. it’s a tiny 15 seater. everything falling off. i had to put my seatbelt back on the bolt just so i could use it…
so, the flight attendant walked down our 6 or 7 aisles with hard candy and cotton balls for your ears. and then we were off.
it was so loud but we were on our way…for awhile. suddenly, it got bumpy. we were notified we could not land at lukla due to weather. these guys dont fly with computers, it’s all visual so they need a clear view of this tiny landing strip. well they weren’t getting it, so they tried taking us to another tiny airport about 10 minutes away. the weather was worse here and so was the ride. one or two even puked. we turned around and flew the nauseating trip back to kathmandu. sad.
they said to sit here and wait for the weather. we had been here since 6:30am and we sat in this tiny airport waiting and waitng until finally! 4:30pm and there was a break in the weather! we were all pretty excited, this was the last chance for the day otherwise we’d be back at the hotel…
we shuttle out to the plane that is still being worked on as we wait. we eventually load up and get going on an immediately bumpy ride. we get to lukla and once again have to turn around, no visual. the ride back to kathmandu was so nauseating. the plane kept bouncing and dropping and getting knocked side to side. i still feel like i wanna puke and it’s been a few hours.
so we get back to the airport disheartened, and got shuttled back to the hotel. now here we are, waiting to go at it again tomorrow morning, nice and early. here’s hoping for good weather. the group is really getting anxious (also, a lot of the people have been really awesome and fun). wish us luck. round 3 for the most frightening flight starts tomorrow.
ps. mom is freakin out. ive never seen a death grip on a seat like that, but she’s puttin up with it to get to her mountain. also, its thundering and lighting like nobody’s business.
we only have a short bit of internet. here’s today:
got up early, had a team meeting. got to meet a bunch of runners. they’re from everywhere! lots of accents! learned some stuff at the meeting, took some pics.
got on a tour bus. went to where they publicly burn the bodies and two were burning. the river is so polluted. monkeys, cows and dogs. will post pics eventually…
then went to a special buddist temple, it was a celebration, saw lots of stuff, arts, will post more on that when im not running out of time on the wi-fi.
tomorrow we fly out to lukla, the scary airport and we start our trek. it’ll be a short trek but this is where the wi-fi starts getting super sparse. there will be a wi-fi spot here and there so we’ll update when possible.
ITS FINALLY STARTING!!!
hey guys, how’s it going? Terry looks like a tourist! are you pigging out on roast dog or cat, bbq cow or poached pigeon? looks like Terry is already haggling with store keeps. save room to bring home a sherpa. luv u guys….
Anonymous asked: What has been your favorite 'non-normal-Taryn' food you have tried so far? Anything new and foreign?
ha. ive been eating rice and ramen and bottled water. it’s more of a be careful of what you eat thing while we’re in town. lot’s of potential poop disasters. we’ll see what happens on the trek!
Anonymous asked: T please tell mother aka mom that i will have a poem posted on here in the next day or 2 i hope you get it, and tell mom to try and not imitate the accents when talking to the locals.- love zack
oh man zack, she’s an imitating machine. it’s great. and i’ll let her know. tomorrow might be the last day we get internet for a while so hurry it up or we wont see it for a while! love you!
